The evolution of domain patterns in Permalloy film elements under an in-plane applied field was studied. Equilibrium configurations for square samples and the associated quantities were computed numerically using the reduced theory. The two hysteric events, one associated with the domain walls reaching the boundary of the sample and the other associated with the expulsion of the vortices from the interior of the sample were revealed.

Abstract
